    Research on the learning attitude and strategies of medical English terminology on the perspective of linguistic motivation

    • ObjectiveTo explore the learning attitude and strategies of students in learning medical English terminology on the basis of motivation.
      MethodsA questionnaire survey was conducted in the third grade clinical major students in a medical college to understand the general situation of students' learning medical English terminology, compare the differences of learning medical English terminology among different gender and basic English level students, and analyze the correlation between the cognition and learning strategies of students' learning medical English terminology.
      ResultsThe differences of the "degree of emphasis", "use of morphological motivation" and "use frequency in listening" among different gender students were statistically significant (P < 0.05 to P < 0.01).The differences of the "degree of emphasis", "time spent per week", "use of phonetic motivation", "use of morphological motivation", "use of etymological motivation", "use frequency in reading", "use frequency in listening", and "use frequency in speaking" among different basic English level students were statistically significant (P < 0.05).There was a positive correlation between learning cognition and learning strategies of students in medical English terminology (P < 0.01).
      ConclusionsMedical English teachers should help students correct their learning attitude and eliminate their concerns that they cannot learn medical English well without a high level of basic English, guide them analyzing the motivation structure of medical terminologies, cultivate them thinking mode and teach them how to "fish".
