    Investigation of knowledge and attitude regarding donor human milk among medical staff, hospitalized mothers and spouses

    • ObjectiveTo investigate the knowledge and attitude regarding donor human milk among medical staff, hospitalized mothers and spouses, and its influencing factors.
      MethodsOne hundred and sixty-six medical staff, 300 hospitalized mothers and their spouses were selected from three tertiary hospitals in Bengbu city.The knowledge and attitude of donor human milk were investigated using questionnaire.
      ResultsThe correct rate of donor human milk knowledge in hospitalized mothers, spouses and medical staff were 44.9%, 40.5% and 84.2%, respectively.The scores of attitude toward donor human milk in hospitalized mothers and their spouses were(3.43±0.64) and(3.45±0.67), respectively.The scores of the items 'donating milk is a very meaningful thing' and 'vigorous promotion of donating human milk is very necessary' were the highest, and the score of the item 'you are willing to use donated breast milk for your baby' was the lowest.The score of attitude toward donor human milk in medical staff was higher(4.59±0.55), and the score of the item 'it is very meaningful to donor milk' was the highest(4.67±0.51).For hospitalized mothers and their spouses, the main reasons of unwilling to use or donating human milk were 'worrying about the safety of donor milk', 'not knowing the procedure of donating milk' and 'worrying about the impact of donor human milk on health'.
      ConclusionsPaying attention to the breast milk bank and breast milk donation and strengthening the propaganda and education for medical staff and the public can promote the sustainable development of donor breastfeeding.
