Effect of single-nucleotide polymorphism of the FTO gene on laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass

    • ObjectiveTo explore the effects of single-nucleotide polymorphism of the FTO gene on laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.
MethodsSixty fat patients were treated with the laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. The body mass index(BMI), serum fasting plasma glucose(FPG) and blood glucose at 2 hours after meal(2hPG) before operation, and after 1, 3, 6 and 12 months of operation were measured, and recorded, and the single-nucleotide polymorphism of FTO gene were detected in all cases.
ResultsThe TT(46 cases, 76.67%), TA(13 cases, 21.67%) and AA(1 case, 1.67%) genotypes were identfied.Due to the small number of AA individuals, the AA group and TA group was put together for analyzing. The differences of the sex, age, BMI and FBG at preoperative and postoperative time points were not statistically significant between two groups(P>0.05).The 2hPG in TA+AA group before operation and postoperative 3 months were significantly higher than that in TT group(P < 0.05), while the differences of 2hPG between two groups after 6 and 12 months of operation were not statistically significant(P>0.05).
ConclusionsThe potential type 2 diabetes patients may exists the rs9939609 A allele, the laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass should be implemented regardless of whether their blood glucose is normal, and the sleeve gastrectomy in simple obesity patients with rs9939609 T allele may be performed.
