Application of Seminar teaching model in standardized training for residents in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery department

ObjectiveTo investigate the application value of Seminar teaching model in standardized training for residents in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery department.

MethodsForty students receiving standardized training in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery department in our hospital were randomly divided into the observation group(n=20) and control group(n=20).The Seminar teaching model was conducted concerning one theme each week in the observation group, and the students prepared PPT concerning the theme combined with the patient's medical records, then reported and discussed on the spot.The traditional teaching method was used in the control group.Theoretical examination, clinical practice assessment and trainee questionnaire survey were used to evaluate the teaching effect.

ResultsThe scores of theoretical examination in students in two groups(92.90±3.007 points in observation group, 91.90±1.997 points in control group) were not statistically significant(P>0.05).The scores of clinical practice assessment and trainee questionnaire survey in students in observation group(89.35±3.265 points and 81.65±2.907 points, respectively) were significantly higher than those in control group(81.30±2.774 points and 70.25±2.712 points, respectively) (P < 0.01).

ConclusionsThe Seminar teaching model is helpful to improve the quality of training for residents in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery department, which is worth popularizing.
