Effect of the Ⅱ, Ⅲ degree acid/base burns on ocular surface

    • ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of Ⅱ, Ⅲ degree acid/base burns on ocular surface.
MethodsThe patients with Ⅱ and Ⅲ degree acid/base burns were divided into the acid burn group(n=20, 31 eyes)and base burn group(n=22, 30 eyes), and 21 eyes without burn were set as the normal group. The tear-film break-up time(BUT), Schirmer Ⅰ test, surface regularity index(SRI), and surface symmetry index(SAI)and cylinder(CYL)of cornea were collected.
ResultsThe BUT in acid burn group and base burn group was significantly lower than that in normal group(P < 0.01), and the difference of BUT between the acid burn group and base burn group was not statistically significant(P>0.05).The differences of the Schirmer Ⅰ, SRI, SAI and CYL among three groups were not statistically significant(P>0.05).
ConclusionsThe Ⅱ, Ⅲ degree acid/base burns do not affect the tear's secretion, but affect the tear-film stability.
