Cognition survey and influencing factor analysis of nursing students on patient safety culture

    • ObjectiveTo investigate the current situation of safety culture cognition of nursing students on patients in a third-class A hospital in Shanghai, and analyze the related influencing factors.
MethodsA total of 118 nursing students were surveyed using the general information questionnaire and Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture by random sampling method.
ResultsThe total positive response rate of 118 nursing students was 68.21%.The advantage dimensions included the supervisor/manager expectations and actions promoting safety(90.11%), organizational learning-continuous improvement(87.01%), teamwork across hospital units(86.44%) and management support for patient safety(76.27%).The disadvantage dimension was the nonpunitive response to error(31.07%).The results of single factor analysis showed that the influencing factors of the positive response rate of nursing students were internship duration, nursing errors and patient safety culture training(P < 0.05).The results of binary logistic regression linear analysis showed that the independent influencing factors of the positive response rate of nursing students was the safety culture training of patients(P < 0.05).
ConclusionsThe level of patient safety culture of nursing students in practice is at the middle level, and the non-punitive response to errors should be paid more attention. The practice nursing students' cognition of patients' safety literacy level is affected by many reasons.Nursing educators should strengthen the construction of non-punitive nursing safety culture, optimize the curriculum setting of patient safety culture, and strengthen the related training.
