Expression and significance of p53 and TAZ in triple negative breast cancer

    • ObjectiveTo study the expression and significance of p53 and transcriptional co-activator with PDZ binding motif(TAZ) in triple negative breast cancer(TNBC), and explore their relationship with the clinicopathological characteristics in TNBC patients.
MethodsSixty patients with invasive breast cancer diagnosed by pathology were divided into the TNBC group(30 cases) and non-TNBC group(30 cases). The expression levels of p53 and TAZ in cancer tissue were detected using immunohistochemistry. The relationship between the expression levels of p53 and TAZ, and age, tumor size, lymph node metastasis, TNM stage and histological grade of TNBC patients were analyzed.
ResultsThe expression level of TAZ in TNBC group was higher than that in non-TNBC group(P < 0.01).The positive expression rates of p53 in patient age ≤ 45 years old and tumor >2 cm were higher, while the positive expression rates of TAZ in tumor >2 cm and histological grade Ⅰ-Ⅱ were higher(P < 0.01 and P < 0.05).In TNBC group, the expression level of p53 was positively correlated with TAZ expression(rs=0.381, P < 0.05).
ConclusionsTAZ may be involved in the development of TNBC.
