    Effect of the extract of Gleditsia sinensis thorns on the proliferation and apoptosis of human nasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE-2 cells

    • ObjectiveTo explore the effect of the extract of Gleditsia sinensis thorns on the proliferation and apoptosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE-2 cells.
      MethodsNasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE-2 cells were cultured in vitro.The CNE-2 cells with different concentrations of the extract of Gleditsia sinensis thorns extract, Complete cell culture medium was used as the negative control group.The cell proliferation was detected by MTT assay.Treating nasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE-2 cells with different concentrations of the extract of Gleditsia sinensis thorns, Apoptosis of the cells was detected by flow cytometry.
      ResultsThe cell proliferation inhibition rates of the higher concentration groups(3.2, 6.4, 12.8, 25.6 mg/mL) were (89.61±1.88)%, (96.99±0.66)%, (93.88±1.24)%, (84.15±0.86)%, respectively, the apoptosis rate of each concentration group was significantly higher than the negative control group's(P < 0.05).After treating nasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE-2 cells with 2, 2.5, 3 mg/mL the extract of Gleditsia sinensis thorns, the apoptosis rate were(15.61±1.21)%, (22.08±1.70)%, (37.62±2.07)%, respectively, the apoptosis rate of each concentration group was significantly higher than the negative control group's(P < 0.01).
      ConclusionsThe extract of Gleditsia sinensis thorns can inhibit the proliferation and induce the apoptosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE-2 cells.
