ObjectiveTo explore the mediating role of resilience in the relationship between psychological congruence and career status of oncology nurses.

MethodsThe convenience sampling method was used to investigate 320 nurses in the Department of Oncology by using the general data questionnaire, the evaluation scale of medical staff′s stress resistance, the sense of psychological agreement scale and the career status evaluation scale.

ResultsThe scores of resilience, psychological congruence and career status of oncology nurses were (60.48±8.66), (58.25±10.11) and (83.53±9.56) points, respectively.There was a positive correlation between resilience and psychological congruence and career status (P <0.01).There was also a positive correlation between the dimensions of resilience and psychological congruence and the dimensions of career status (P <0.01).The mediating effect of resilience on the relationship between psychological congruence and career status was 15.2%, accounting for 19.3% of the total effect, and the mediating effect was significant (Z=4.956 > 1.96).

ConclusionsOncology nurses′ resilience, sense of psychological congruence and career status are at medium, low and medium levels, respectively.Resilience plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between psychological congruence and career status.Hospital managers should start from the factors that affect nurses′ sense of psychological congruence and resilience to promote the benign development of oncology nurses′ career.
