Relationship between pentraxin3, C-reactive protein and the severity and prognosis of elderly patients with acute cerebral infarction

ObjectiveTo observe the relationship between the serum levels of pentraxin 3 (PTX3) and C-reactive protein (CRP) and the severity and prognosis of elderly patients with acute cerebral infarction.

MethodsThe levels of PTX3 and CRP in 120 patients were detected and divided into two groups according to NIHSS and BI score 2 months after discharge.Spearman correlation analysis and ROC curve were used to evaluate the correlation and predictive value of PTX3 and CRP with disease condition and prognosis.

ResultsThe serum levels of PTX3 and CRP in the high NIHSS score group were significantly higher than those in the low NIHSS score group, PTX3 and CRP level in the good prognosis group were significantly lower than those in the poor prognosis group(P < 0.05 to P < 0.01).The levels of PTX3 and CRP were positively correlated with NIHSS score, and negatively correlated with BI (P < 0.01).The levels of PTX3 and CRP had good predictive value for disease condition and prognosis, and PTX3 was the best.

ConclusionsPTX3 and CRP may be useful indicators to predict the severity and prognosis of elderly patients with acute cerebral infarction.
