Objective To investigate the status of discharge readiness of stroke patients and their caregivers, analyze the possible influencing factors, and provide the basis for discharge planning services.
Methods A total of 130 stroke patients and their caregivers were investigated with readiness for hospital discharge scale and caregiver readiness scale before discharge.
Results There was a positive correlation between patients' discharge readiness and caregivers' readiness (P<0.01), and a positive correlation between coping capacity and caregiver readiness (P<0.01).According to the results of multiple regression analysis, the total scores of patients' readiness were significantly affected by the following factors: the main source of the costs for hospitalization, family monthly income, gender and marital status of caregivers and caregiving experience of caregivers (P<0.01), while another four factors, the gender of patients, family monthly income, education level and response capacity of caregivers, had strong influence on the total scores of caregivers' readiness (P<0.01).
Conclusions The readiness of stroke patients and caregivers needs to be improved.It should be assessed in a timely manner of readiness levels of patients and caregivers, and the personalized discharge guidance program should be given to realize the effective discharge transition.
