Clinical efficacy of biological agents in the treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis

    • Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of biological agents in the treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.
Methods A total of 96 patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis were selected for this study and randomly divided into a control group (48 cases) and an observation group (48 cases). The control group received narrowband ultraviolet therapy, while the observation group received biological therapy. The area and severity of skin lesions (PASI score), incidence of adverse reactions, clinical efficacy, quality of life questionnaire (DLQI), and biochemical indicators of the two groups of patients were compared.
Results After 3 months of treatment, the PASI score and DLQI score of the two groups were lower than those before treatment (P < 0.01), and the observation group was lower than the control group (P < 0.01). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups of patients (P>0.05). The effective rate of treatment in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P < 0.01). After treatment, the levels of interleukin-2 (IL-2), IL-17, IL-23, and tumor necrosis factor α in observation group were lower than those in control group(P < 0.01).
Conclusions Biological therapy has a definite clinical efficacy in the treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, which can help with the disappearance of skin lesions, alleviate symptoms such as itching, and has a high treatment effectiveness rate, which helps to improve the quality of life of patients.
