Expression of LASP2 in gastric cancer patients and its correlation with prognosis

    • Objective: To investigate the expression levels of LIM and SH3 protein 2 (LASP2) in gastric cancer tissues and their corresponding paraneoplastic tissues, and its role in the prognostic assessment of patients after gastric cancer surgery. Methods: The expression levels of LASP2 in gastric cancer tissues and paracancerous tissues in patients treated with radical gastric cancer surgery were detected using immunohistochemical staining. The patients were divided into the high LASP2 expression group (n=41) and low LASP2 expression group (n=40) according to the median expression level of LASP2.The correlation between LASP2 and clinicopathological parameters of patients, and its effects on postoperative survival of gastric cancer were assessed. Results: The expression levels of LASP2 in gastric cancer tissues were higher than those in their paracancerous tissue (P<0.05),the expression of LASP2 in gastric cancer tissues was positively correlated with the levels of CEA and CA19-9 in the peripheral blood of gastric cancer patients (P<0.05),the difference of the 5-year survival rate between two groups were statistically significant (P<0.05),and the 5-year survival rate in the high expression group was lower (P<0.05).The results of Cox multiple regression analysis showed that the high expression of LASP2,T-stage 3-4,N-stage 2-3,CEA ≥5 μg/L and CA19-9 ≥37 kU/L were the independent risk factors affecting the 5-year survival rate of patients after radical gastric cancer surgery (P<0.05).Using the 3.64 of relative expression level of LASP2 as the cut-off value, the sensitivity and specificity of the prediction of 5-year postoperative death were 82.22% and 77.78%,respectively (P<0.01). Conclusions: LASP2 is highly expressed in gastric cancer tissues, which is related to the clinical prognosis of patients, and may become a potential prognostic marker for patients with gastric cancer.
