Development and validation of a knowledge, attitude, and practice questionnaire on advance care planning among oncology medical staff

    • Objective  To develop a knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) questionnaire on advance care planning among oncology medical staff, and to test its reliability and validity.
Methods  Based on the KAP theory, a draft questionnaire was formed through literature review, group discussion, Delphi expert consultation, and pilot test. From January to February 2024, 344 medical staffs in the oncology department from 10 tertiary hospitals, 5 secondary hospitals, and 2 primary hospitals in 7 cities of Anhui Province were selected as the survey subjects to test the reliability and validity of the questionnaire.
Results  The KAP questionnaire included three dimensions: knowledge, attitude, and practice, with a total of 48 items.By exploratory factor analysis, 2, 4, and 2 common factors were extracted from the dimensions of knowledge, attitude, and practice, respectively, and the cumulative variance contribution rates were 51.278%, 68.263%, and 84.463%, respectively. The overall Cronbach′s α coefficient of the questionnaire was 0.963, and the Cronbach′s α coefficient of each dimension was 0.904-0.957.The split-half reliability was 0.872, and the test-retest reliability was 0.920.
Conclusions  The developed KAP questionnaire on advance care planning among oncology medical staff has good reliability and validity, which can be used to evaluate the KAP level of advance care planning of medical staff in the oncology department.
