Study on the relationship between serum levels of IL-6, OPG and sRANKL and coronary heart disease

    • Objective To establish a logistic regression model, and analyze the effects of interleukin-6 (IL-6), osteopontin (OPG) and soluble receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (sRANKL) on coronary heart disease (CHD).
Methods A total of 192 patients with CHD and 110 healthy people were divided into the CHD group and control group. The serum levels of IL-6, OPG and sRANKL in two groups were detected by ELISA.
Results Compared with the control group, the serum levels of IL-6 and OPG in the CHD group increased (P < 0.01 and P < 0.05), while the serum level of sRANKL decrased (P < 0.01). The results of logistic regression analysis showed that the serum IL-6 and OPG were the independent risk factors of CHD (P < 0.01). The serum IL-6 level was negatively correlated with sRANKL level (P < 0.01), and positively correlated with OPG level (P < 0.01). IL-6, OPG and sRANKL were correlated with cardiac function indexes (P < 0.05 to P < 0.01).
Conclusions The serum IL-6, sRANKL and OPG levels are related to the occurrence and development of CHD.
