Body position intervention for reducing the discomfort in patients undergoing thyroid operation

    • Objective: To probe into the effect of body position intervention in relieving the discomfort of patients undergoing thyroid operation. Methods: Eighty patients undergoing thyroid surgery were randomly divided into two groups.Control group adopted routine thyroid operation posture, and the observed group received body position intervention such as preoperative body position training, body position altering and body position adjusting in the process of operation. Then the postural tolerance in the operative process, and the occurrence of headache and vomiting of the patients were observed. Results: The position tolerance in the observed group and control group was 17.5% and 42.5%,and the incidence of postoperative headache was 27.5% and 62.5%,respectively.The incidence of postoperative vomiting was 22.5% and 47.5%,respectively.The difference was significant between the two groups(P<0.05 to P<0.01).Conclusions: Postural intervention could improve the toleration, reduce the postoperative headache and vomiting, and prevent or relieve the postural discomfort of the patients undergoing thyroid surgery.
