Clinical effect of improved total vaginal hysterectomy

    • Objective: To evaluate the improved total vaginal hysterectomy(TVH),and to explore its application in basic level hospitals by comparing TVH and total abdominal hysterectomy(TAH) for patients with non-prolapse uterus and a history of pelvic surgery. Methods: Improved TVH was conducted to 26 cases of large non-prolapsed uterus and with a history of pelvic surgery, and the result was compared with that of the cases receiving TAH at the same period. Results: The time of anal discharge, postoperative fever and hospital stay were significantly shorter in the TVH group than those in the TAH group(P<0.01),but there was no significant difference in operation time or bleeding amount between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions: The recovery is faster in the cases receiving improved TVH than in those receiving TAH.The improved TVH is also safe to the patients with a history of pelvic surgery and big uterus. It can be popularized in basic level hospitals.
