Abstract
Objective:To explore the anti-inflammatory effects of punicosides(Puns) and its mechanism. Methods:Two kinds of acute inflammation model of mouse(including ear swelling in mice induced by dimethylbenzene and paw swelling in rats induced by carageen glue) were established, animals were divide into model control group,Puns treatment group and Indomethacin group. The inhibiting effects of Puns on mice with ear swelling induced by dimethylbenzene and rats with paw swelling induced by carageen glue were observed. The levels of the prostaglandin E2(PGE2) and methane dicarboxylic aldehyde(MDA) in rat paw and superoxide dismutase(SOD) and MDA in serum were measured in Puns treatment groups. Results:The 400 and 800 mg/kg of Puns could significantly suppress the mice ear swelling induced by dimethylbenzene(P<0.05 and P<0.01),Puns could suppress the rats paw swelling induced by carageen glue in different extents(P<0.05 to P<0.01).Compared with model control group,Puns significantly inhibited the production of PGE2 and MDA of inflammatory tissue(P0.01),increased the activity of serum SOD,and decreased the level of serum MDA,the differences of which were statistical significance(P<0.05 to P<0.01).Conclusions:Puns has anti-inflammatory effects, which may be related to the inhibition of PGE2 synthesis and anti-lipid peroxidation.
