Effect of clean intermittent catheterization for the treatment of urinary retention following radical resection of cervical carcinoma

    • Objective:To explore the curative effect of clean intermittent catheterization on urinary retention after radical resection of the cervical carcinoma.Method:Eighty-three cases of cervical carcinoma complicated by post operative urinary retention were randomly divided into observation group(n=43) and control group(n=40).The control group were treated by the conventional method of implanting a urinary drainage tube, while the observation group by clean intermittent catheterization. The recovery time of the bladder function and the residual urine volume one week after the removal of the catheter were observed and compared between the two groups. Results:The recovery time of the bladder function in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group(P0.01),but the residual urine volume one week after the removal of the catheter was not significantly different between the two groups.(P0.05).Conclusion:Clean intermittent catheterization is helpful to the recovery of the bladder function of patients who had received radical operation of the cervical carcinoma.
