Influence of hepatic lipase gene C-514T variants on blood lipids

    • Objective: To investigate whether the promoter 514C/T of hepatic lipase (HL) variants affect blood lipids level. Methods: Three hundred and twelve subjects were studied. The serum lipid and apolipoprotein were measured by enzymatic methods and the genomic DNA was isolated from peripheral blood by DNA isolation kit.Polymerase chain reaction and restricted fragments polymorphism were used to determine HL genotype. Results: After adjusting age and BMI, the influence of HL genotype on profiles of HDL-C levels had staticstical significance (P<0.05) with values in the order of T/T+T/C>C/C.This effect appears more evident in male than in female (P<0.01 and P<0.05).Conclusions: HL-514C/T gene variants affect blood lipids and there exists gender difference, however the difference is not significant among the HL genotypes.
