Abstract
Objective: To investigate the factors influencing the visual function of patients undergoing scleral buckling for treatment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Methods: The clinical data of 169 eyes of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment were analyzed retrospectively. All the cases were treated by scleral buckling surgery. The postoperative retina reattachment, visual acuity and complications were observed. Results: Postoperative submacular hemorrhage occurred in 3 eyes, vitreous hemorrhage in 2 eyes, increased vitreous opacity in 18 eyes, glaucoma in 9 eyes, cataract in 2 eyes and the formation and increase of proliferative vitreo retinopathy(PVR) in 23 eyes. The ratio of retinal restoration in surgical treatment of rhegmatogenous detachment of retina was above 92.3%.The visual acuities were improved, but the visual function after surgery was not satisfactory. Conclusions: The improvement of visual function is affected by many factors, including the patients' age,the duration and scope of retinal detachment, the extent of PVR,the duration of macular detachment, the amount of intraoperative condensation, the drainage subretinal fluid, the change in the refractive state and the postoperative complications.
