Abstract
Objective: To observe the problems in endotracheal intubation teaching and the incidence of postoperative sore throat and hoarseness so as to improve the teaching quality of intubation. Methods: One hundred patients undergoing general anesthesia were randomized into teaching group(n=50) and anesthetist group(n=50).The time length of intubation, incidence of deoxygenation and number of intubating attempts were recorded in both groups. The postoperative sore throat and hoarseness were also assessed when the patients departed from the Postanesthesia care unif and 24 hours after the operation. Results: The time length of intubation, incidence of deoxygenation and number of intubating attempts in the teaching group were significantly higher than those in the anesthetist group(P<0.01);the severity of sore throat was significantly less in the anesthetist group than that in the teaching group(P<0.01);however,there was no significant difference in the incidence of hoarseness between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions: Endotracheal intubation teaching will extend the time length of intubation, increase the number of intubating attempts and increase the risk of airway injuries.
