Abstract
Objective: To explore the clinical effects of the adjustable ventriculo-peritoneal shunt valve in treating adult hydrocephalus. Methods: Twenty cases with hydrocephalus were treated with the adjustable ventriculo-peritoneal shunt valve. The valve pressure was adjusted according to the intracranial pressure of patients during the operation and the ventricular size in CT and the clinical symptoms after operation. The valve increased or decreased 1 level every month according to the brain CT.Results: All patients were followed up for 3 to 19 months. The high-pressure hydrocephalus symptoms were improved in 5 cases, the valve in 1 case with less ventricle was adjusted to high 1 level.Among 15 cases with normal-pressure hydrocephalus, the improvement in 8 cases and no obvious improvement in 7 cases were found.Among 8 cases treated with adjustment, the improvement of symptom and imaging in 7 cases and no obvious improvement in 1 case were found. Conclusions: The clinical effects of the adjustable ventriculo-peritoneal shunt valve are good, which can prevent complications.
