Cryosurgery for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment by using binocular indirect ophthalmoscope

Objective: To observe the effect of cryosurgery for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD)by using binocular indirect ophthalmoscope.Methods: Eighty six patients(91 eyes) were treated.Binocular indirect ophthalmoscope were used to find holes and to do cryosurgery,scleral compressing.Scleral buckling,releasing subretinal fluid,injecting the C₃F₈ or SF₆ in the vitreous cavity has been done if necessary.Results: Eighty four eyes had retinal reattachment after one operation,the other four eyes had retinal reattachment after twice operation,still other 3 eyes must be done with vitrectomy.Conclusions: The cryosurgery for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment under binocular indirect ophthalmoscope is an effective and safe method.
