Limbal corneae stem cell autograft transplantation for treatment of pterygium

Objective: To observe the effect of limbal corneae stem cell autograft transplantation in treatment of pterygiun.Methods: Two hundred seventy cases(286 eyes) of primary and recurrent pterygium were treated by excising the pterygium under microscope,combined with limbal corneae stem cell autograft transplantation.All the cases were followed up for 6-42 months.Results: Two hundred fifty-nine eyes healed and twenty-seven eyes recurred.The recurrence rates were 9.0% and 11.4% for the cases of primary pterygium and recurrent pterygium,respectively.Conclusions: Excision of ptergyium combined with limbal stem cell transplantation is easy to operate and has a low recurrence rate.It is an effective procedure for treatment of pterygium
