Abstract
Objective: To introduce the experience in treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma with intensity modulated radiation therapy(IMRT).Methods: From Aug.2001 to Jun.2002,6 cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma were treated with IMRT by means of the MIMiC collimator and the peacock plan system. The irradiation dose was delivered at 3 to 3.5 Gy,3 to 5 times per week. The total prescribed dose to target volume was 49 to 70 Gy.Results: The planning target volume(PTV) was enclosed by 95% isodose line, median homogeneity index(HI) was 1.158.The average dose to the organs at risk(OAR) were underdosed 50% of TD5/5.Conclusions: IMRT can protect the critical organs with little radiotherapentic response.
