Analysis of 47 cases of epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis in Bengbu

Objective: To summarize the epidemiologic features of epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis(ECM) in Bengbu area and to provide clinical basis for the prevention and control of ECM.Methods: The clinical features of 47 patients with ECM were analyzed retrospectively and epidemiological investigation was made in 30 of them.Results: The ECM from January to April accounted for 72.34% of all the cases,and 65.96% of the patients were aged between 11 and 20;the majority of the patients came from Fengyang county and Bengbu city;the main epidemic strains for ECM were group C meningococcus;the incidence of ECM of fulminating type accounted for 31.91%.Conclusions: There exists group C meningococcus in Bengbu area,with an obvious onset of seasonality;the age of the patients tends to be higher than before;susceptible population should be immunized with group A+C meningococcus polysaccharide vaccine.
