Study on the effects of Zhongfeng Tanyu decoction on the expression of PDGF-BB and Ang-2 in patients with acute ischemic stroke based on angiogenesis

    • Objective To investigate the effects of Zhongfeng Tanyu decoction on the expression levels of platelet-derived growth factor BB (PDGF-BB) and angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) in peripheral blood in patients with acute ischemic stroke based on angiogenesis mechanism.
Methods A total of 80 patients with acute ischemic stroke were randomly divided into the control group and treatment group (40 cases in each group). The control group was treated with standard conventional treatment, and the treatment group was treated with Zhongfeng Tanyu decoction based on the control group. After 14 days, the serum levels of PDGF-BB and Ang-2 between two groups were compared, and the scores of National Institutes of Health stroke scale (NIHSS score), stroke modified Rankin scale (mRS score), TCM syndrome score and ADL score before and after treatment were observed, and compared between two groups.
Results After treatment, the levels of PDGF-BB in two groups significantly increased compared with those before treatment (P < 0.01), and the level of Ang-2 in the treatment group after was significantly higher than that before treatment (P < 0.01). The levels of PDGF-BB and Ang-2 in the treatment group were significantly higher than those in control group (P < 0.01 and P < 0.05). After treatment, the TCM syndrome score significantly decreased (P < 0.01), and the ADL score significantly increased in two groups compared with those before treatment (P < 0.01). After treatment, the TCM symptom score in the treatment group significantly decreased (P < 0.01), and the ADL score significantly increased compared with the control group (P < 0.01). After treatment, the NIHSS score in two groups decreased compared with before treatment (P < 0.05), the mRS score in the control group decreased compared with before treatment (P < 0.05). After treatment, the NIHSS and mRS scores in the treatment group were lower than those in control group (P < 0.05).
Conclusions Zhongfeng Tanyu decoction has definite clinical efficacy in treating stroke phlegm-blocked acute ischemic stroke, and its effect may be related to the mechanism of promoting angiogenesis and improving cerebral blood supply by up-regulating the expression of PDGF-BB and Ang-2 after cerebral ischemic injury.
