Montelukast for treatment of bronchiolitis:a report of 25 cases

Objective:To observe the curative effect of montelukast on patients with bronchiolitis.Methods:Fourty-nine cases of young children with bronchiolitis were randomly divided in two groups.The treatment group (n=25) received montelukast in addition to conventional therapy,and the control group (n=24) received routine therapy only.The effects were evaluated and compared.Results:The curative effect of the treatment group was superior to that of the control group (P<0.05),and the sign and symptom relieving duration of the patients in the treatment group was significantly shorter than that of the control group (P<0.05).Conclusions:Oral administration of montelukast is effective,secure and convenient for treatment of patients with bronchiolitis.
