Abstract
Objective: To assess the value of urinary pyridol(uPyd),urinary deoxypyridinoline(uDpd) and urinary N terminal telopeptide opeptide(uNTx) in diagnosis of patients with bone metastases. Methods: Eighty advanced cancer patients were included in the study and bone metastases were noted in 46 of them. The uPyd,uDpd and uNTx were measured in all the cases, and the severity of bone pain and the extent of bone involvement were recorded. Results: The levels of uPyd,uDpd,and uNTx were statistially different in patients with bone involvement and those without bone involvement, and uNTx provided a higher diagnostic accuracy. The level of uPyd was not related to the severity of bone pain, while the levels of uDpd and uNTx were. The levels of uPyd,uDpd,and uNTx were greatly different in patients with bone metastases(P<0.01).Conclusions: Detection of uPyd,uDpd and uNTx has certain diagnostic value in cancer patients with bone metastases. The level of uPyd,uDpd and uNTx may reveal the sevierity of bone pain and the extent of bone involvement.
