Abstract
Objective: To study the efficacy of metal stent combined with arterial intubation chemotherapy for treatment of advanced esophageal carcinoma. Methods: The self-expanding Ni-Ti memorized alloy stent was placed though the mouth of 19 patients with advanced esophageal carcinoma under fluoroscopic guidance. When the physical condition of the patients recovered 1-2 weeks later, selective arterial intubation chemotherapy was given to the location of the carcinoma with Seldinger method. Results: Twenty-one stents were used in 19 cases.Significant efficacy was obtained in all the patients.Effective arterial intubation chemotherapy was obtained in 4 cases, striking improvement in 11 cases and no response in 3 cases. One was out of contact after the first treatment. The total efficacy rate was 78.9%,with no severe complications. Conclusions: The metal stent for advanced esophageal carcinoma has certain efficacy in near future and can improve the long-term efficacy and the life quality of the patients when combined with arterial intubation chemotherapy.
