Abstract
Objective: To observe the dynamic changes of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in the blood plasma of the newborns with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy(HIE),and to investigate the correlation of VEGF with the pathogenesis and early diagnosis of HIE.Methods: Ninety full-term newborns with HIE were chosen as the experimental group, and the VEGF in plasma was examined on the 1st day,the 3rd day(acute stage) and the 7th day(the recovery stage) after birth using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA);30 neonates with no nervous system diseases acted as control. Results: VEGF in the experimental group on the 1st day,3rd day and 7th day after birth increased significantly compared with that in the control(P<0.01),and it reached the peak on the 1st day,and then descended. The VEGF on the first day was much higher than that on the 7th day(P<0.01).Conclusions: VEGF can be used as a significant index in diagnosis of HIE.
