Abstract
Objective: To investigate the significance of the expression of stat-3 and survivin in the genesis and development of breast carcinoma. Methods: Immunohistochemistry S-P was utilized to measure the expression of stat-3 and survivin protein in 51 breast carcinoma tissues and 25 adjacent noncarcerous tissues. Results: The expression of stat-3 protein was higher in breast carcinoma tissues than that in the adjacent noncarcerous tissues(P<0.001);the expression of stat-3 protein was higher in the positive lymph node group than in the negative lymph node group(P<0.05).It was not related to the patients' age, size of tumor, pathological grades, clinical stages,ER,PR or cerbB-2(P>0.05).The expression of survivin protein was higer in breast carcinoma tissues than in the adjacent noncarcerous tissues, and the difference was significant(P<0.001).The expression of survivin protein had no significant coorelation with the patients'age, size of tumor, pathological grades, clinical stages, lymph node metastasis,ER,PR or cerbB-2(P>0.05).Of the 35 cases with positive survivin protein expression, positive stat-3 protein was detected in 34 of them. The expression of survivin and stat-3 had positive correlation in breast carcinoma(P<0.05).Conclusions: stat-3 and survivin may play an important role in the carcinogensis and progression of breast carcinoma by inhibiting apoptosis.
