    A collective analysis of 16 cases of skin Fusarium infection

    • Objective:To investigate the clinical features and treatment of skin Fusarium infection.Methods:Sixteen cases of skin fusariun infections reported in China from 2001 to 2003 were collected and analyzed.Results:There were 10 cases of Fusarium solani infection,3 cases of Fusarium moniliforme infection,1 case of Fusarium oxysporum infection and 2 cases of unknown species in this group.Skin ulcer occurred in 12 cases,skin nodules in 3 cases,and skin ulcer and nodules in 1 case.One case presented disseminated Fusarium infection,2 cases the basic disease of acute leukemia and 1 case was complicated with squamouscell carcinoma.Fungal culture was proved positive in 16 cases;fungal component was detected by direct microscopy in 11 cases and by pathological examination in 7 cases.11 cases were treated with systemicantifungal therapy,and 8 of them were improved or cured.Conclusions:Fusarium solani is most commonly seen in Fusarium infection,presenting the symptoms of skin lesion,ulcer or nodular changes in general.Fungal culture,direct microscopic examination and histopathology examination are helpful to the diagnosis.There is no unified treatment protocol for Fusarium infection up to now.
