Microwave in treatment of trigeminal neuralgia Ⅱ with avulsion of nerve and tissue

Objective: To improve the therapeutic results for treatment of trigeminal neuralgia Ⅱ and to reduce recurrences.Methods: Sixty-five patients with second trigeminal neuralgia Ⅱ with avulsion of nerve and tissue were treated with microwave thermocoagulation.Results: All the patients were followed up for 2 to 5 years and the total response rate was 100% in recent years.Complete remission was found in 80% of the patients(52/65)and recurrence was found in 20%(13/65).Conclusions: The method proves to be effective in treating primary trigeminal neuralgia.It has the advantages of safety,slight injury,quick recovery and low recurrence rate.
