Effect on prognosis of advanced esophageal cancerty esophageal stenting

Objective: To investigate whether the radiotherapy after esophageal stenting can help enhancing the survival period or living-quality.Methods: For 11 patients, the radiotherapy fields were defined under imitation machine;the three fields concentric, 15 MV X-ray was taken;the length of the fields included the total esophageal stent and 1-1.5 cm beyond the stent with the breadth at 6 cm;the total dose was 50-55 Gy by convention fraction.Results: The radiotherapy did not extend the life span and living quality, and made the patients suffer more than the others.Conclusions: The patients with advanced esophageal cancer should not undergo stenting to rectify low nourishment before radiotherapy.The patients after esophageal stenting should receive further radiotherapy.
