Endovascular treatment of the left iliac vein compression syndrome

    • Objective: To evaluate the effect of endovascular treatment of the left iliac vein compression syndrome(Cockett syndrome). Methods: Ninety-three patients with Cockett syndrome were treated with endovascular treatment. The seldinger technic was used for puncture of the left femoral veins. The catheter and balloon were employed to dilate the left iliac veins, and then the self-expension "Z" stent or wallstnet was placed. The secondary operation was performed for treatment of the severe reflux of the femoral veins. Results: Ninety of 93 patients were cured and 73 stents were placed.Three left iliac veins were ruptured and the local haematoma were formed. No further damage occurred. The iliac veins were patent after the placement of the stent and no stent migration that would affect the blood stream of the right iliac vein and inferior cana veca occurred. The limb swelling was obviously alleviated. Conclusions: The endovascular management combined with the femoral vein constriction to treat with Cockett syndrome have good near future effect. The procedure is minimally invasive, simple, safe and effective.
