    Clinical analysis of severe craniocerebral trauma in aged patients:a report of 42 cases

    • Objective: To investigate the clinical features and treatment of the aged patients with severe craniocerebral trauma.Methods:The clinical data of aged patients with severe craniocerebral trauma including 28 cases treated with operation and 14 cases treated with non-operation from May 2003 to Feb.2012 were retrospectively analyzed.Results:Twenty-three cases survived,which included good recovery in 8 cases,moderate disability in 10 cases and severe disability in 5 cases according to the Glasgow outcome scale.Nineteen cases died.Conclusions:Severe craniocerebral trauma in the elderly is a critical disease and high mortality.Correct diagnosis,timely treatment and active prevention complications are the keys to reduce the secondary craniocerebral trauma and increase survival rate.
