Abstract
Objective: To investigate the dynamic changes of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and angiopoietin-1(Ang-1) levels in serum and its significance of patients with acute cerebral infarction and the relationship between the content of two kinds of growth factor and infarction area, and theirselves. Methods: The serum levels of VEGF and Ang-1 of 30 controls and 50 patients with acute cerebral infarction at hours 48,days 2,3 ,7 , 14 and 21 were measured by ELISA. Results: The levels of VEGF in patients with acute cerebral infarction at different time-points were significantly higher than that of control group(P < 0. 01) ,which were dynamic changes and peaked on the 3rd day(P < 0. 01) . The levels of VEGF were closely related to infarction size(P < 0. 05 ~ P < 0. 01) . The levels of Ang-1 in patients with acute cerebral infarction increased on the 7th day and peaked on the 14th day, which were related to infarction size and positive correlation with VEGF content(P < 0. 05) . Conclusions: The serum levels of VEGF and Ang-1 in patients with cerebral infarction increase significantly, which suggest that the two angiogenic factros involve in the pathophysiological process of ischemic brain damage. The serum levels of VFGF and Ang-1 have a certain significance to estimate the infarction size.
