Abstract
Objective: To investigate the expression of integrin 3 and Ki-67 in esophageal carcinoma and its relation to the recurrence and metastasis of tumor. Methods: The expression of integrin 3 and Ki-67 of the cases that survived over 5 years without recurrence or metastasis(group A) and died of recurrence or metastasis within 1 year(group B) were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results: No expression or little expression of integrin 3 of normal esophageal mucosa were detected, but varying degrees of expression in esophageal carcinoma. All tissue expressed Ki-67,which were found at the basilar part of normal squamous epithelium with express strength less than 1 + and esophageal carcinoma tissue. The integrin 3 and Ki-67 expressions of group B were significantly higher that of the group A(P < 0. 01) . The expression of integrin 3 in ESCC had interrelation with the tumor length,T stage and lymph metastasis(P < 0. 05 to P < 0. 01) . The expression of Ki-67 had interrelation with tumor differentiation and lymph metastasis (P < 0. 05 and P < 0. 01) . Conclusions: The expression of integrin 3 in esophageal squmous cell carcinoma is a significant marker in predicting the recurrence or metastasis of tumor, which combined with Ki-67 may be of prognostic value to predict the recurrence or metastasis of esophageal carcinoma.
