Abstract
ObjectiveTo observe the result of two methods in treatment of pterygium. Methods: A total of 95 patients( 112 eyes) were divided into two groups randomly.Forty-seven patients ( 57 eyes) ( stem cell group) were treated with compound excision which mitomycin C and autologous corneal Limbal stem cell transplantation with conjuctival flap were used.Forty-eight patients( 55 eyes)( amnion group) were treated with mitomycin C and amniotic transplantation. After 6 - 18 months follow-up, the postoperative recurrence and complication of two groups were analyzed. Results: Three cases reoccurred and the recurrence rate was 5.3 % in stem cell group.Thirteen cases reoccurred and the recurrence rate was 23.6 % in amnion group. There was statistical difference in the recurrence between the two groups( P 0.01) . Conclusions: The antologous corneal limbal stem cell transplantation with conjunctiva flap can decrease the recurrent rate, and it is safe, effective, reliable for the treatment of pterygium
