Expression and clinical significance of occludin in human cervical cancer

    • Objective: To investigate the relationship between the expression of occludin and the occurrence, development, metastasis and prognosis of human cervical cancer. Methods: The mRNA and protein expression of occludin were detected by in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry and Western blotting, which combined with 44 patients clinical data were analyzed. Results: The occludin expression of different cervical cancer type and histologic differentiation was statistical different(P<0.05).The expression of occludin the adjacent tissues of cervical cancer tissue was higher than that of tumor tissues(P<0.05).The occludin expression levels in the adjacent tissues of cervical cancer tissue, tumor tissue and normal tissue were statistical different(P<0.01).The occludin mRNA expression levels of the survival patients with following up for 3 to 5 years were higher than that of the death patients(P<0.05).Conclusions: The expression of occludin is low in human cervical cancer, which has a positive correlation to the histologic differentiation of cervical cancer and survival time of patients and can be a new indicator for cervical cancer diagnosis and prognosis.
