Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the life quality of patients with maxilla defect reconstructed using antebrachium flap and buccal fat pat. Methods: Twenty patients with maxillectomy were investigated.According to the repair methods, patients were divided into two groups(10 cases each group). The maxillary defects of surgical reconstruction group were reconstructed using antebrachium flap and buccal fat pat.The prosthesis group were repaired with the traditional prothesis at a year after maxillary defect. The life quality of two groups were assessed using University of Washington Head and Neck Questionaire (UW-QOL ).Results: There was statistical significance between the differences of the facial pain, recreation, swallowing, chewing, language, oral hygiene and shoulder dysfunction of two group(P<0.01).Very good for 3 cases and good for 7 cases in surgical reconstruction group and common for 2 cases and bad for 8 cases in the prosthesis group were found, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.01).Conclusions: Reconstructing maxilla defect using antebrachium flap and buccal fat pat can improve the life quality of patient, which is worth clinical spread application.
