Repair and reconstruction of giant chest wall defect after tumor resection

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the methods of repair and reconstruction of giant chest wall defect after tumor resection. Methods: The clinical data of 15 cases with chest wall neoplasms were retrospectively analyzed.Giant chest wall defects were repaired and reconstructed with steel wire mesh,Dacron patch and mesh-like titanium alloy plate afer tumor resection.Results: All cases operation process were smoothly and none died.Chest wall tumors were completely resected and no postoperative complications occurred.All the patients were followed up for 1 month to 10 years,9 cases with malignant tumors survived for 6 months to 7 years and 6 cases with benign tumors were alive.Conclusions: Surgery is still the main treatment for chest wall tumors.Repair and reconstruction of giant chest wall defect can maintain the stability of the chest structure and pleural cavity closure.Choosing appropriate repair material is the key factor of successful operation.
