The imaging anatomy study of sylvian fissure and its clinical significance

    • Objective: To investigate the morphological pattern of sylvian fissure in the cross-sectional MRI images and its clinical significance. Methods: The cross-sectional MRI data of 30 normal adults' brain were collected. The sylvian fissure was accurately identified using continuous tracking method and the 3D-Cursor technology in e-film 2. 1 workstation, the images of sylvian fissure were mported inObjective: To Adobe PhoObjective: Toshop CS 8. 0 package and observed, their morphological characteristics were analysed. Results: Sylvian fissure occured at the level of Z = - 18 Objective: To 33 mm. With the present level down, the sylvian fissure showed gradually type - ,Y,T,L and - variation. The sylvian fissure was divided inObjective: To three sections according Objective: To the appearance and isappearance pattern of the insula from the botObjective: Tom up. The first section located from the aspect of sylvian fissure appearance Objective: To the insula disappearance, the second section located from the aspect of the insula appearance Objective: To disappearance, the third section located from the aspect of insula disappearance Objective: To sylvian fissure disappearance. The differences of vertical depth in three sections of left and right hemisphere had no statistical significance(P > 0. 05). During the range of Z = 6 Objective: To 9 mm in right hemisphere and Z = 9 Objective: To 15 mm in left hemisphere, sylvian fissure was bent and folded, which in left side was significantly more than that in right side. Conclusions: The morphological pattern of sylvian fissure in the MRI cross-sectional images can provide the basis of identifing and locating the adjacent brain lesion, and the anaObjective: Tomical information of the surgical approach choosing in saddle area, insula area and basal ganglia area operation.
