    Clinical features of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo: a report of 163 cases

    • Objective: To analyze the clinical features of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Methods: The clinical characteristics of 163 cases of BPPV were analyzed retrospectively,and the different types of BPPV were compared. Results: One hundred and sixty-three patients with BPPV were accounted for 28. 8% of the men and women(71. 2%),< 40 years of age accounted for 68. 7%, 40 or higher accounted for 31. 3%; 118 cases of posterior semicircular canal, the horizontal semicircular canal, 44 cases of vertical semicircular canal in 1 case; type posterior semicircular canal BPPV of nystagmus incubation period shorter than the horizontal semicircular canal, the incubation period and posterior semicircular canal and horizontal semicircular canal eye shock duration difference had statistical significance(P < 0. 01). Conclusions: BPPV disease is a common clinical, is the main reason for vertigo common in women, the cause is not yet clear. Posterior semicircular canal BPPV,are the most common, followed by the horizontal semicircular canal,most rare vertical semicircular canal and posterior semicircular canal and the horizontal semicircular canal longer incubation period,but the dizziness duration is shorter.
