Influence of mild hypothermia on serum IL-2,IL-6 and α-TNF levels in patients with acute stroke

Objective: To explore the influence of mild hypothermia on serum IL-2,IL-6 and α-TNF levels and its clinical significance.Methods: Thirty-six patients with acute stroke were divided into mild hypothermia group and routine group.The serum levels of IL-2,IL-6 and α-TNF on the first(d₁),third to fifth(d_3-5),fourteenth(d₁₄)day after hospitalization were monitored and compared between the two groups.The patients' NIHSS on d₁₄ and the mortality were recorded.Results: The serum levels of IL-2,IL-6 and α-TNF of both groups on d₁,d_3-5 and d₁₄ were higher than those of the normal group(P<0.01).The serum levels of IL-2 and IL-6 in patients treated with mild hypothermia on d_3-5 and d₁₄ were lower than those of routine group(P<0.01 and P<0.05).NIHSS of patients with mild hypothermia treatment on d₁₄ was lower than that of routine group(P<0.001),and mortalities were 31.3%and 45.0%,respectively.There was no distinct difference between them(P>0.05).Conclusions: Mild hypothermia treatment can decrease the serum levels of IL-2 and IL-6 in patients with acute stroke and inhibit the inflammatory response so that the cerebral cells can be protected.
