Abstract
Objective: To assess the clinical value of chemotherapeutic renal artery embolization before radical nephrectomy in treatment of renal carcinoma. Methods: Clinical data were retrospectively analyzed in 17 cases of renal carcinoma who were treated with chemotherapeutic renal artery embolization by ultraliquified iodipin and gelatin sponge under digital subtraction angiography(DSA) before radical nephrectomy. Results: Seventeen cases the preoperative embolizations of renal artery were successfully performed. After renal artery embolization, the surgical resections revealed that the operation field was clear, the lumps were easily to peel off with less bleeding. The histopathology demonstrated that the tumors had obvious necrosis and the borderline with peripheral normal tissues was clear. Conclusions: Embolization of renal artery is effective and safe in treatment of renal carcinoma.Chemotherapeutic renal artery embolization before radical nephrectomy in renal carcinoma can greatly decrease the risk in the operation.Renal artery embolization shoud be widely applied for renal carcinoma.
