Abstract
Objective:To observe the outcome of early repair of cleft lip and simultaneous correction of nasal deformities. Methods:The Millard procedure was used to repair the unilateral cleft lip.The greater alar cartilage and nasalis were repositioned to the normal anatomical position through the incisions. The deviated septum and columella were corrected by cutting the abnormal attachment of the orbicularis oris muscle to the anterior nasal spine. The alar cartilage of the deformed side was upgraded to the same height of the normal side and fixed up with the mattress sutures.Results:Twenty-six infants were treated with this method. The follow-up lasted from six to fourteen months. The results were satisfactory. Conclusions:It is feasible to repair unilateral cleft lip and to correct nasal deformity simultaneously, which can reach real-time results and good long-term efficacy. This technique can eliminate the severe cleft nasal deformity, and reduce the re-operation rate and surgical difficulty. It is recommended for the treatment of unilateral cleft lip with nasal deformity.
