Surgical treatment of traumatic lumbar intervertebral disc prolapse in the teenagers: A report of 8 cases

Objective: To evaluate the clinical characteristics and the treatment of lumbar disc prolapse in the teenagers.Methods: The clinical symptoms,physical signs,imageologic characteristics and the operative methods of 8 patients were analyzed.All eight patients had operation.Three patients underwent hemilaminectomy and 5 laminal fenestration.Results: Eight patients were followed up from 1 to 6 years with an average 3.5 years,6 were excellent,one good and one fair.Conclusions: The properties of the disease:the onset of illness after obvious lumbar injury;clinical symptom and signs frequently are obvious.In order to diagnose definitely,CT or MRI examination must be taken and surgical treatment must be considered as an ideal treatment.
